    Kumudini Lakhia

    Born on 17 May 1930 in Bombay, Shrimati Kumudini Lakhia is one of the foremost dancers of Kathak today. She is the distinguished disciple of renowned traditional Kathak gurus like Shambhu Maharaj, Birju Maharaj (both of Lucknow gharana), Sunder Prasad, Radha Lal Mishra (of Jaipur gharana) and Ashiq Hussain (of Banaras gharana).

    In her capacity as a dancer, teacher, and choreographer she has held many prestigious positions. She was Vice President of the International Dance Council (UNESCO). Her choreographic works, such as Dwidha and Atah-kim, tried to achieve a synthesis of traditional techniques and modern themes. These choreographies are now considered classic, and many of the innovations she premiered in them have become ingrained in Kathak performance.

    She has received many awards and honours such as the Padma Shri, Kalidas Samman, Nagar Bhushan, Omkarnath Thakore Award, Ahmedabad City Award, the Gujarat State Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for dance in 1978, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award of 1982, and the Padma Bhushan in 2010.

    Shrimati Kumudini Lakhia is elected Tagore Fellow of Sangeet Natak Akademi for her contribution to Indian dance.

    Nayantara Parpia

    Nayantara Parpia is a young and upcoming Kathak dancer with a vibrant and energetic stage presence that leaves a striking impression on her audiences. She has trained in the Lucknow gharana of Kathak since the age of 7, under the tutelage of renowned Kathak exponent, Smt. Yogini Gandhi also under Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj. She has regularly attended workshops conducted by stalwarts such as Prerana Shrimali, Aditi Mangaldas, Smt. Sitara Devi, Smt. Kumudini Lakhia, Smt. Geetanjali Lal, Pt. Rajendra Gangani, Smt. Shama Bhate, Dr. Kanak Rele, Smt. Mandakini Trivedi and Dr. Pappu Venugopala Rao.

    Since 2004, Nayantara has been performing as one of the lead dancers in the Kalanidhi troupe, and has travelled and performed extensively with her Guru at various festivals, concerts, corporate shows and lecture demonstrations across India. She also has many solo Kathak performances to her credit in India, Singapore and the UK.

    Nayantara has been awarded the title of Nritya Shree in 2010 by Utkal Yuva Sanskrutik Sangh at the Cuttack Mahotsav, recognized by UNESCO.

    Besides being a performer, Nayantara is a very passionate teacher, and has been imparting training in Kathak to young children and adults for over 10 years. She taught Kathak in Apsaras Arts prestigious Indian classical dance institutes in Singapore and now teaches in her own school, Tridhaara Institute of Kathak in Pune.

    Uma Dogra

    Uma Dogra, a leading Kathak exponent, is one of the most powerful and compelling dancers of India. Honoured as Pandita ,Uma Dogra is the senior-most Ganda Bandh Shahgird of Late Pt. Durga Lal ji the legendary kathak Maestro from Jaipur Gharana. Uma Dogra has been enthralling audiences all over India and abroad for more than 45 years.

    For her great contribution as a dancer, teacher and choreographer she has been conferred with the Prestigious awards like 'Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar', 'Maharashtra Gaurav Samman' and 'Maharashtra Sanskriti State Award (Rajkiye Puraskar)'. She has been given Honorary membership of Min-on Concert Association Tokyo Japan for spreading Peace and culture through her Dance. ITM University, Raipur presented her with an Honorary Doctorate of Arts in 2016

    Uma Dogra is the founder and Managing Trustee of Samved Society for Performing Arts which organises Pt. Durgalal Festival of dance and music and the Raindrops Festival of Indian Classical Dance every year since 1993. She trains Kathak enthusiasts at her school Uma Dogra's School of Kathak in Mumbai.

    Uma Sharma

    Dr. Uma Sharma is renowned classical dancer who has been awarded Padma Bhushan for her unique contribution to the cultural tradition of this country. In spearheading the transformation of this art form, Uma Sharma has been at the centre stage of events in the country. Her themes have etched out the color of concern about issues that matter.

    Dr. Uma has been trained by greatest gurus of the Kathak tradition such as Shambhu Maharaj of Lucknow Gharana, and Sunder Prasad Ji of Jaipur Gharana. Dr. Uma Sharma runs her own School of Music and Dance academy Bhartiya Sangeet Sadan (Uma Sharma School of Dance & Music) which has been in existence since 1976 and has been training a whole new generation of young dancers including foreigners from West Asia, Europe and America.

    Dr. Uma Sharma is the moving force behind prestigious “Swami Haridas Tansen Sangeet Nritya Samaroh” which is an annual event on the art calendar of capital with eminent musicians & dancers. And to keep the tradition alive Dr. Uma creates Maharaas Leela during Sharad Purnima at Laxmi Narayan Temple every year which is dedicated to Late Smt. Kamla Devi Chattopadhyay and Late Raasdhari Pt. Ladli Saran Sharma (Brindavan)

    Smt. Veena Bhat, a certified member of The International Dance Council is the director of Nrityadarpan. She Completed B.A in kathak from Prayag Sangeeth Samiti and practising kathak for past 12 years under Sushree Rumela Mukhopadhay.She has trained in Bharatanatyam under Guru Krishna Panicker for six years and Dr. Deepak Mazumdhar for two years, before she found her calling in Kathak, and is training for the last 9 years under Guru Rumela Mukhopadhyay of Tarang and the Kaikini sisters of Nrityanidhi from Mumbai. She holds a Degree in Kathak from Prayag Sangeeth Samiti. Constantly empowering herself by attending workshops by Gurus like Smt.Shila Mehta,Dr.Purnima Pandey,Shri. Jayanth Kastoor,Shri Harshvardhan Singh,(student of Pt.Birju Maharaj and Pt.Rajendra Gangani.She has also experimented with other dance forms including contemporary and folk genres, and has also trained with Saroj Khan. She continues to teach, experiment and innovate at her dance institution NrityaDarpan in Bangalore. She has been honoured with many awards including 'Talent of the year' and has many performances to her credit.
