    Poornima Ashok

    Poornima Ashok is a performing Bharathanatyam danseuse, choreographer and teacher from Bangalore. She is committed to the art as a lifetime pursuit. She has had her training from Guru Smt. Radha Sridhar from Bangalore and has furthered her training under the famous Gurus Sri Dhananjayans of Chennai. She has learnt the intricate aspects of Abhinaya from Guru Smt. Kalanidhi Narayan.

    Even as a young student she represented Karnataka at various youth festivals and consistently won accolades. With a Debut par Excellence in 1986, Poornima has never looked back. She has since performed at all major Sabhas and for premier cultural organizations in the country and abroad.

    Poornima also propagates the art form with her performances and demonstrations for foreign representatives and delegates, sponsored by established corporates, institutions and NGOs. She is an A-grade artist of Doordarshan and has appeared on the National Network and Regional Channels several times. She was a recipient of the Central Govt. Scholarship for Advance Training in Bharathanatyam and also an empanelled artist of ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations).

    She has won several awards and recognitions including Karnataka kalashree by Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy

    Prathibha Prahlad

    Prathibha Prahlad is an acclaimed Bharata Natyam dancer whose multi-faceted personality reflects in the exemplary work she continues to do in the arts field. She is a performer, educator, choreographer, arts administrator, author and a cultural visionary. Her contribution to the arts field goes much beyond her own trail-blazing dance career of over 40 years, which has taken her to prestigious platforms all over the world.

    Prathibha Prahlad is the recipient of numerous awards and titles. The Govt. of India has honored her with the Padmashree (2016) in recognition of her yeoman service to the arts. She is the youngest recipient of the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for dance (2001). She has also received the Karnataka State Government Award (2001), Sangeet Nritya Academy Award of Karnataka (1997). The Delhi International Arts Festival, the most famous and the largest Arts Festival in India, of which she is the Founder Festival Director, is a known Brand internationally because of Prathibha's vision.

    Radhika Shetty

    Radhika Shetty is a highly endowed and promising artiste who was introduced into the art form of Bharatanatyam by Vidushi Smt. Sharadamani Shekhar of Sanathana Natyalaya, Mangaluru. She completed her Rangapravesha under the guidance and direction of the honored Guru Smt. Padmini Ramachandran of Natyapriya, Bengaluru. She continues to seek guidance from Gurus Smt. Rama Vaidyanathan and Smt. Bragha Bessell and evolves with every performance. She has delivered lectures, conducted workshops and has performed at various prestigious venues of the country, also Hungary and USA.

    Radhika believes that propagating the art form is also very important to nurture the young minds and that gave rise to Nrityaangan, a registered trust founded by Radhika in Mangaluru. She teaches young aspirants of Bharatanatyam at her academy in Mangaluru and also curates Dance Festivals, Workshops and Seminars with the sole objective of propagating this beautiful art form.

    ?She is also a graded artiste of Bengaluru Doordarshan and empanelled with SPICMACAY for workshop demonstrations in schools. She was awarded the BEST DANCER in the senior category by the Parthasarathy Sabha, Chennai.

  • Rukmini Vijayakumar
    Rukmini Vijayakumar

    Rukmini Vijayakumar, is the artistic director of Raadha Kalpa Dance Company, and the director of Lshva, a space for artists. She is known for her unique style and approach to the practice of Bharatanatyam. Her strength lies in her dedicated and rigorous practice and layered knowledge of Bharatanatyam. Rukmini has performed as a soloist all over the world, including the Jacobs Pillow, The Drive east festival, LaMama Theater NYC, Korzo Theater, amongst numerous other venues. She was noticed for her role as “the goddess of love” in Pandit Ravi Shankar’s Opera, ‘Sukanya’, produced by The Royal Opera house, London.

    She began her bharatanatyam practice under Guru Padmini Rao, Guru Sundari Santhanam and Guru Narmada. Her style is greatly influenced by Karanas, an ancient movement practice of India. A Graduate of the Boston Conservatory, Rukmini’s process of creation is both traditional and contemporary. She was a recipient of the Kylian grant for choreography and a resident choreographer at Korzo theater, Netherlands in 2018. Rukmini continues to to create extensively in the traditional format of presentation. Her productions, Nayani, Prabhavati, Abhimata, Talattu and The Dark Lord have toured india and the world extensively.

    Also an actor, Rukmini has had the privilege of working with some of the best Filmmakers in the Indian film industry. She has worked with Bharathi Raja, Mani Ratnam, R Balki, Harsha, and Soundarya Rajanikanth. She was nominated for the Filmfare award, best supporting actress for her role in “Bhajarangi”.

    Sachidanand Narayankar

    A Doordarshan graded artist and qualified by U.G.C NET, Sachhidanand Narayankar is a young and vibrant performing artist, a dedicated teacher, a creative choreoghrapher and an administrator. His vision and interest flourished during Bachelors & Masters performing arts in Bharatanatyam from Nalanda Nritya Kala Mahavidyalaya established by Padmabhushan Dr. Smt. Kanak Rele. He has performed major roles like Siddhartha, Angulimal, Vishnu and Ram in ballets of Nalanda Dance Research Centre. He is an active member of Sankhya Dance Company and has performed lead roles of Aniruddha and Banasura in its productions.

    He successfully runs his dance institution Nrityarangam Kala Mandir at Solapur and Mumbai. He has got “SPICMACAY scholarship” for learning Kathakali. He is also an avid learner of Kalari Payattu and Mridangam. He has performed extensively in India and abroad in festivals like The Music Academy 2020, Nartaka Festival Chennai 2020, Doha Tribecca Film Festival, Kalaghoda Festival - Mumbai, Dadasaheb Phalke Award ceremony, Olympic games, Festival Indii - Poland and Moldova, Natya Darshan Conference - Chennai, Pandit Durgalal Festival - Thane, Purush Festival - Pune, Dvandva Festival - Mumbai, Upvan Festival - Thane, Natyarangam's Thyaga Bharatam Mahotsava - Chennai, Discover India USA, Fringe Festival Philadelphia to name a few.

    Dr. Seshadri Iyengar

    Dr. Seshadri Iyengar a freelance, Neo-Classical Bharatnatyam / Contemporary dancer, Homoeopathic Physician and a Yoga instructor is based in Bangalore. Proud to be fan of the Vazhuvoor style, he is a senior disciple of Smt Padmini Ravi. As the Artistic Director of the Iyengar Centre for Fine Arts he hosts monthly chamber concert and workshops at his centre - a space for interaction and creative learning. Body Kinetics a holistic fitness module developed by himself, connects the technique (the dance form) with the medium (the dancer) by addressing the breath, the mind and the self. Last but not the least he strongly believes that dance is beyond form and gender.

    As a dance artist he has established himself as a performer, choreographer and a teacher. He has travelled extensively internationally. Each year he is invited to the USA, Canada, UK and several other countries for workshops and performances.

    He is an empanelled artist with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR)

    Sheela Unnikrishnan

    Sheela Unnikrishnan is a renowned exponent of Bharatanatyam. She was trained in Melathur style of Bharathanatyam under Late Guru Sri M. Sundaram (a prime Disciple of Masestro Mangudi Sri Dorairaja Iyer) and she has been able to imprint his legacy with her own dance persona. Sheela is the Founder-Director of Sridevi Nrithyalaya. Students of her academy have participated in various dance festivals and have become stars in popular TV shows like ‘Thaka Dhimi Tha’, ‘Konjum Salangai’ etc. Sheela’s Sridevi Nrithyalaya produced its first Balashree Awardee in 2009. She has choreographed more than 300 solo dance pieces, 8 thematic prestations and 7 dance dramas in Bharatanatyam. Her students have always outshone in their ability to be more creative, smart, sharp and more talented. Many of her disciples have won prestigious awards, scholarships and first prizes in various state level and National level competitions. Sheela has also conducted dance workshops and Lecture-Demonstrations in India and abroad.

    Sheela Unnikrishnan has also endeavored to create new spaces for the classical dancers of today. A first class Post Graduate in Chemistry and a Graduate of Education, Sheela has also completed M.F.A., (Bharatanatyam) in first class and is currently working on completing Doctorate in Bharatanatyam. “Katradhu kai mann alavu; kallaadhadhu ulagalavu” – this is the mantra of Sheela Unnikrishnan. She continues her journey in this divine path of art, by keeping herself receptive for learning, and encourages her students too to be open for learning.

    T.S. Kanaka

    Thiruveezhimizhalai S.Kanaka daughter of a doctor couple hailing from Thiruveezhimizhalai, is a musician, dancer, choreographer, composer, teacher and a vocalist who accompanies dance recitals too. She is a child prodigy who learnt music from ‘Padmashri’ Dakshinamurthy Pillai. After his demise she started learning from Shri Ramesh Kumar of Thiruveezhimizhalai. Now she is under the tutelage of Smt. Bhushany Kalyanaraman who is the wife and prime disciple of Tanjore.S.Kalyanaraman. Her mother ‘Natanamamani’ Dr. Uma Subramaniam who is a disciple of Vazhoor Ramaiah Pillaiis is her dance guru.

    She did her B.A. in music with a gold gold medal from Queen Mary’s College and masters in Bharathanatyam from Madras universiry. Currently she is doing her PhD. She started performing at the age of 8 and won ‘Kalai Ila Mani’ award from Government of Tamilnadu at the age of 11.

    She is the organizer of Veezhimizhalai Natyanjali and manages a dance school Sankara Natyalaya at Adambakkam, Chennai.

    Unnath H.R.

    Unnath H.R., a disciple of Vidhusi Ambale Rajeshwari, is a well known name in the field of dance in India and Abroad. He is a post graduate in both Dance and English Literature, Vidwath in dance. He has been presented on stage in the major cities of India as well as in the U.S., Russia, Belarus, Malaysia, Thailand, Bangaladesh and Sri Lanka.

    Unnath has won many prestigious awards and titles such as “Ekalabya Sanman”, “Natya Koustuba”, “Abhinaya Nrutya Koumudhi”, 'Natraj Gopi Krishana Samma', “Kalamandir Puruskaram” and “Natya Mayooram”. He was titled “Yuva Nrityakalaacharya” twice in 2018 and 2019, by AIDA –All India Dancers Association in Bhilai

    Unnath is an 'A' grade Artist at Dooradarshan. He is the Princiipal and Artistic Director of Natyakala Nivas where he is training more than 150 students.

    Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy

    A Danseuse par excellence, versatile choreographer of repute and a venerated guru of Bharatanatyam, Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy who hails from the princely city of Mysore, has turned very much a phenomenon in the Indian Classical dance scenario over the past three decades. Vasundhara's artistry is the quintessence of the pristine purity of the much sought-after Pandanallur school of which she is the torchbearer. Vasundhara is one of the pioneer desciples of renowned Shri Pattabhi Jois from mysore in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, and has earned a PhD for her reasearch and thesis on the correlation between Yoga and Bharatanatyam.

    She is the youngest recipient of the 'Karnataka Kala Tilak', the prestigious award from the Karnataka Sangeetha Nrithya Academy. Even as her academic background, a post-graduate degree in Folklore and a doctorate for the thesis 'Bharathanatyam & Yoga' vouch for a strong penchant for interdisciplinary approach.

    Vasundhara Performing Arts Centre, Mysore of which she is the founding director, is and institution of excellence that continues to groom young talents in Bharathanatyam and Yoga and her disciples are a legion. Also, the three annual festivals - 'Pallavotsava', 'Natarajotsava' and 'Parangathotsava'- which the institute organises in the premier city, is a vehement demonstration of her sincere pursuits to encourage the upcoming talents and honour the outstanding artists.

    Vasundhara Doraswamy is an A-Graded Artist in Doordarshan. She is a member of audition Committee of Doordarshan Kendra. She is also a member of Mysore University Selection Committee for Dance. She is presently a member of Ten members expert committee for Bharatanatyam appointed by the culture department, Govt. of India.
